August 2014 – Long Distance Baking
2 more days until September, which means it’s practically Fall. Of course, Starbucks has already started selling their Pumpkin Spice Lattes so if Starbucks ran the world, the best season/time of year is already upon us. Thank you, Starbs. Here at LDBaking, we love Fall and all things Fall related so please prepare yourselves as well bombard you with Fall inspired recipes from now until, well, forever. And so today, I bring you pumpkin bread! I want to start by saying that I’m not the biggest … [Read more…]
Last week I decided to go home. Now, usually I consider Boise home. I’ve lived here going on 8 years. My friends are here, my job is here…I readily claim this city as my own. But every now and then, I still get homesick. For my real home. For the town I grew up in and to spend some time with my family. Even though I see them throughout the year, I hadn’t actually been home since Christmas. So you know what I did? I drove home. Through gorgeous fields and hills after hills of golden … [Read more…]
One of my favorite breakfast foods, really anytime foods, is a frozen waffle with peanut butter. Steph and I have even bonded over our shared love of peanut butter waffles- seriously the best! I could eat them every day and not just for breakfast. I have, on occasion, brought a frozen waffle and peanut butter to work with me and eaten it for lunch. Sometimes I will even eat it for dinner when I can’t decide what to eat. I just love frozen waffles with peanut butter! My family, however, … [Read more…]
Caramel. Apple. Spice. Blondies. Do these scream fall or what?! I was questioning saving this recipe for later. Figured even though I’m obsessed with everything fall already, maybe other people are still enjoying the last rays of summer. Maybe they’re not ready for fall yet. But then I realized school’s are starting up again (if not already), college football starts in one week and rumor has it Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back on Tuesday?!?! If PSL is back, that’s proof it’s fall. And … [Read more…]
Come May 16th, I will be an official wedding cake baker. Because on May 16th my best friend is getting married and I am making her wedding cake! Am I nervous about making the cake, yes. Kind of freaking out about the cake, yes. Excited about being a wedding cake baker, yes! I’m just praying it turns out. I’m not nervous about the actual cake itself. It’s just a matter of finding the right recipe; that part doesn’t scare me. I’m confident that after some trial and error, I will find a recipe … [Read more…]
You’re probably tired of hearing about my excessive amount of tomatoes, but even after making salsa…I still have TONS! Every time I eat one I swear two more are ripe. I’m not complaining, I just needed to figure out something to do with them! If there’s one thing I love more than desserts, it’s pasta. Hot, cold, italian, asian…any kind of noodles will do! Since I eat so much, I figured “let’s make some sauce!”. It’s also still just a little too hot to heat up the house with the stove on … [Read more…]
I don’t know about you but I’m big fan of early Saturday morning Food Network TV, especially The Pioneer Woman and Trisha’s Southern Kitchen. Their food always looks amazing! It might put you on the path to heart problems with the amount of butter used, but I’ll take a plate of whatever they make! I was watching Trisha’s Southern Kitchen a few weeks ago and she made cookie dough pops. I’ve never had cookie dough pops but I love cookie dough so I figured I could make my own version. The best … [Read more…]
Tis the season for zucchini! I’ve already started seeing coworkers leaving their extras in the break room at work. I’m slightly ashamed to say though, I have no homegrown zucchini this year 🙁 I got the “grey bugs of death” on my plants and there was no saving them. Normally by this time of year we have dozens of ginormous ones and I’m desperately trying to use them all and of course, now that I don’t have any, I miss them. You know how it goes. Never fear, I’m still making you zucchini … [Read more…]
First, thanks Aunt Paula and Mimi for this old-fashioned cake plate! Isn’t it so cute?! Antique shopping runs in the family and this was definitely a great find. Second, happy birthday Naiomi. My cousin Naiomi’s birthday was on Friday and we celebrated last night with this chocolate cake. And it did not disappoint! When I make cake from scratch, I usually always make vanilla because I have not found a chocolate cake recipe that I like. That is until now. We are chocolate fiends in our … [Read more…]
As I mentioned in my last post, Chocolate Chocolate Chunk Muffins, I spent last week relaxing with my family at the beach house we rent every year in Aptos, California where we ate and drank more than usual. At least I did and that’s because my cousin made the most delicious strawberry drink I have ever had (and one that I’m calling The Beach House because I really have no idea if it has a name and this just seemed fitting!) I’m being serious, it was DELICIOUS! I’m not a huge drinker and … [Read more…]
