June 2015 – Long Distance Baking

One major perk of the fiancé’s new job is that we both get memberships to the athletic club in town. I attempted to get into running a few summer’s ago, when Kelly and I did the San Francisco Half Marathon, buuuuttt after we ran that race I kind of got out of my work out routine. I think part of me died on the Golden Gate Bridge that morning and I never fully recovered. Now that we’re officially in our first Southern summer, I’m realizing you don’t actually do anything outside. The … [Read more…]

You all know what salad I’m talking about. The one that has been served at every potluck and BBQ in the history of ever? Well I have a confession: I’ve never made it before. My family has never made it either. It’s always been a mystery of sorts to me. I was often intrigued by it at the church potlucks, but was tentative to try it (picky child over here). Then I saw it popping up more lately in the blogging world and knew that as an adult, with a much more mature palate, I needed to try … [Read more…]

Two posts in a row that involve peanut butter… yep, I’m on a PB kick. But then again, when am I not? My cousin is getting married in less than two weeks. We just celebrated her bachelorette party in Vegas at the end of May and let me tell you, nothing will encourage you to get in shape faster than being at a Vegas pool party. So in an effort to look a little more fit and toned for her wedding, I’ve been working on a healthier diet and more intense exercise. I’ve got the exercise part down; I … [Read more…]

It has been a wet, wet spring and early summer here. I’ve seen the most intense rain, loudest thunder and crazy lightning since moving to Louisiana! Unfortunately the storms don’t do anything to cool off the temperature though, so we’ve been spending a lot of time indoors. And what better to do when stuck inside than bake! There’s something almost soothing about baking bread. Baking with yeast and dealing with dough rising used to stress me out a bit. But really, there’s nothing to it! … [Read more…]

What?! I know… just go with me on this. We LOVE peanut butter here on LDB. Whereas my love for Nutella is reserved solely for desserts (for fear I will eat the entire container if I have it around), peanut butter is a staple in my diet. Even now as a 25 year old, I will sometimes eat a toasted pb&j sandwich for dinner and I am never disappointed. It just always hits the spot! One of the best things about having a food blog is the food blogging community that you are a part of! I love … [Read more…]

If you read Kelly’s post on Friday, you’ll have heard about Chobani’s #BreakYouMake campaign. It should come as no surprise that we as Americans have a “go go go” mentality and tend to forget to take some time for ourselves to step back and take a breather. Chobani wants us all to nominate someone in our life this month who deserves a break. I don’t know about you, but my favorite breaks involve food, and what better time to try a Chobani Flip! I mean…Almond Coco Loco? Yes please! While I … [Read more…]

Have you heard of Chobani’s #BreakYouMake campaign? Turns out we Americans do not take daily breaks, breaks we need to refuel and recharge. Think about it, when was the last time you really stepped away from your desk, turned off your phone, ignored your email and just enjoyed a mini break? I say it’s time we change that! So thank you, Chobani, for introducing the #BreakYouMake. America, let’s take more breaks! Chobani is challenging everybody to nominate a person in their life … [Read more…]

Originally I had a road trip planned this spring to travel from Boise to Phoenix for a friend’s wedding, stopping at places like Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Sedona along the way. Well…then my boyfriend (at the time) got a new job, we got engaged, and instead of a road trip to Phoenix I got a road trip to Louisiana. Just a bit farther 😉 My mom retired this year, so she was more than happy to be my driving buddy. I entrusted her with the role of travel planner, and she got the books, … [Read more…]
