March 2015 – Long Distance Baking
Snickerdoodles are one of those cookies we just didn’t eat as a child. I’m not really sure why, I mean everyone loves them, I just don’t have any memories of making or eating them. They’re also not a cookie you generally see out and about (Starbucks, Subway, grocery stores…). Which is very strange to me! If so many people love Snickerdoodles, why are they so hard to find?! The recipes I’ve made in the past required you to chill the dough, a step I convince myself I just don’t have … [Read more…]
Read about online dating part 1 here. Well online dating, we’ve made it almost 3 months but now it’s time to go. It’s not you, it’s me. Really, it’s me. Although, I do not feel that you really listened my responses to those survey questions in the beginning because some of my “matches” were questionable. It’s ok, I forgive you. As I said, it’s not you, it’s me. Maybe we’ll meet again someday… Until then, here are some more things I have learned/questions I have: Is it safe to take a … [Read more…]
Only one weekend into the NCAA tournament aaaaannddd my bracket is officially busted. Kelly’s too. We tried to be different and not pick Kentucky to win it all, but that clearly didn’t work out in our favor. Filling out brackets is a yearly tradition. I remember when we were little, Dad would print out brackets for my sister and I. We would fill them out round by round, so each game we had a 50/50 chance of choosing the correct winner. I like college basketball, but I don’t follow it … [Read more…]
Guys, my sister made food last night. And no, it wasn’t boxed mac & cheese. Let me back up. My sister has made some dinners in the past. She’s made homemade ravioli once and mushroom risotto and a veggie quinoa. Yet, she always asks me to make her an egg because she claims she can’t make one. I don’t consider myself a mean sister, but I don’t always make her one when she asks. Tough love, sis, tough love. But I came home last night and she had made these mini egg muffins for a quick … [Read more…]
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Last year we gave you an Irish Gold Cocktail and Irish Soda Bread. Then Kelly actually went to Ireland and came back with Irish Brown Bread and a Hot Whiskey drink. You have tons of Irish options, but do you see what we’re missing here? Dessert! I made Brown Eyed Baker’s Irish Car Bomb cupcakes a few years back and they were TO.DIE.FOR. But…they were pretty time consuming. I’ve been feeling awfully lazy in the kitchen lately, so I decided to forgo the Guinness … [Read more…]
Hi friends! Things are getting a bit hectic around LDB right now, which is odd for this time of year. I feel like late winter/early spring there’s usually nothing going on. We started January by making a list of goals for the blog this year and commited to making some big changes. We’re now an official LLC (yay!!) and have hired someone to help with our pinterest (check it out here!). Stephanie took both a cake decorating class and a wordpress class through her local community center, and … [Read more…]
This weekend was a windows open, music up, it’s-beginning-to-feel-a-lot-like-spring-time weekend. To me…those kind of weekends require cookies. Sometimes you want an easy recipe, one that doesn’t require a lot of time or energy. Or much thinking. Or dishes. These are the cookies for that time. The original recipe from Quaker is called Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin cookies, and I now know why. This batch lasted under 24 hours! There’s just something about oatmeal cookies that are so … [Read more…]
Remember last week I confessed my love of cheesy carbs? It’s a real thing. Case in point: two cheesy snacks back to back. Cheeze-its. Goldfish. Cheddar Bunnies. I love them all. They’re the kind of snacks someone will have to physically take out of my hands before I eat the whole bag in one sitting. It’s a problem. I’d had making a homemade version in the back of my mind for awhile now, but had never gotten around to it. My sister was visiting over the weekend and I thought that was … [Read more…]
I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been binge watching The Americans all week or because the weather is slightly chilly but I’ve been on a sugar kick lately. And it’s time to cut back. Obviously judging from the title though, I’m taking baby steps to cutting out sugar. It’s a process… Last week I did some meal prep and made some smoothie packets to keep in the freezer for days when I needed a quick breakfast or lunch. I filled 5 Ziploc bags, each containing 1/4 cup frozen mixed berries, … [Read more…]
