April 2015 – Long Distance Baking

My last meal before I die: a thick Oreo milkshake, tri-tip and biscuits. I know, I have quite the sophisticated palate 😉 I’m one of those people who is always craving something. It’s usually some sort of dessert, red meat or a carb happy item such as cinnamon rolls, scones or, you guessed it, biscuits. Geez, I wonder what my eating habits say about me. I swear I eat fruits and vegetables too! I actually blame my mom for this. Sorry, mom. Or maybe I should be saying thank you? Either … [Read more…]

Do you ever struggle deciding what to bring to a party or potluck? My instinct says to bring dessert, but you know there are always plenty of sweets. You could bring chips and dip, but again, there’s bound to be at least one variation of 7-Layer Bean dip already there. It’s nice when someone brings something healthy, just to balance out all the other junk food, but veggie trays can be so boring. You don’t want to be that person who shows up to the party with a sad assortment of grocery store … [Read more…]

Guys, I’m on a health kick. Yes, I know I say that often on here but when you have a blog that is dedicated to baked goods and desserts, health kicks are needed to keep yourself in check. At least they are for me. For this health kick (which in full disclosure, I just ate a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich before I wrote this so I feel like I’m still doing semi-well…) I bring you farro salad. If you have not had it before, make it tonight for dinner because it’s that good! Farro, which … [Read more…]

My roommate and I just celebrated our 5 year anniversary (awwww!). It’s true, somehow we survived 5 years under the same roof without killing each other. For two twenty-something year old girls? That’s a cause for celebration. I know other people make Better Than Sex Cake (BTS or Better Than Anything Cake…if you prefer a more PG name) but I’ve honestly only ever had it if my roommate or I made it. Not to brag or anything, but we’ve pretty much got it down after all these years. Never … [Read more…]

I’ve fallen behind on the baking front lately. I wish my waistline appreciated this mini baking absence but unfortunately since I’ve moved closer to downtown, I’ve been eating out a lot more at some awesome restaurants… So sadly it doesn’t. Here are some yummy places I’ve tried in Sacramento since I moved in December: 33rd Street Bistro: Amazing! A few blocks from where I live, my sister, her gf and I walked over there one night for dinner. I ordered a turkey sandwich, Kara ordered short … [Read more…]

I’ve been a little all over the place lately. Two weeks ago I drove through Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, helping my boyfriend fiance (still not used to saying this!) move. Last week, I was in Phoenix, Arizona at a high school friends’ wedding. And now? Back in Boise. I do pretty well on car rides for the most part. I don’t (usually) get overly grumpy or irritated, and try not to ask “Are we there yet?!” too many times. I try to be … [Read more…]

I knew these two weeks would be crazy, so I prepared a post ahead of time for today: Road Trip Trail Mix. Then something else happened…I GOT ENGAGED. Sorry trail mix, you’re not exciting enough anymore. My fiancé (!!!!!) and I have been dating for 7 years. We met at orientation the summer before our freshman year at Boise State University. Both of us were out of state students, didn’t know anyone there, and we just hit it off. We’ve been together ever since! We’ve been together … [Read more…]

Remember when I took that cake decorating class to prepare for the wedding that was months away? Well, it’s now only a month a way. Time to kick it into gear! I just started a new job about 3 weeks ago that I love and we got a few days off for Spring recess. I decided to use these free days to bake a cake. And what is more festive for a wedding than a champagne cake? My plan is to bake a two tier cake- one 10′ layer and one 8′ layer. So for this cake just made what would be the top 8′ … [Read more…]
